3 min read

³Ô¹ÏÍø was honoured to host a distinguished delegation from our esteemed partner, the University of the West of England (UWE), this week. The visit marks another significant milestone in our long-standing and fruitful partnership, reaffirming our shared commitment to delivering world-class higher education in the Maldives.

The distinguished delegation from UWE included:

• Prof. Yvonne Beach – Pro Vice-Chancellor & Head of the College of Business & Law

• Prof. Ray Priest – International Director: Asia Pacific and Managing Director, UWE International Educational Services

• Dr. Paul Bennet – Dean of Partnerships and International, College of Business and Law

Upon their arrival, the delegates were warmly welcomed by the Rector of ³Ô¹ÏÍø, Dr. Ahmed Anwar, and the senior management team. This initial meeting set a collaborative tone for the visit, celebrating the past successes of the partnership and looking ahead to future opportunities.

Following the welcome meeting, the UWE delegates embarked on a comprehensive tour of the ³Ô¹ÏÍø campus. They had the opportunity to witness our facilities and, most importantly, engaged in meaningful interactions with our dedicated staff across various departments. This experience provided the delegates with a deep appreciation for the vibrant learning environment and the professional community that defines ³Ô¹ÏÍø.

A key highlight of the visit was a strategic discussion focused on the future. Leaders from both ³Ô¹ÏÍø and UWE convened to map out the Strategic Priorities for VC and UWE. This forward-looking dialogue centered on co-creating a vision that will enhance academic excellence, expand research opportunities, and ensure that our graduates are equipped with the skills and knowledge to thrive in a rapidly evolving global landscape.

The visit also delivered immediate value to our academic community through two insightful sessions:

Higher Education Recent Trends / Strategic Matters

Prof. Yvonne Beach delivered an expert presentation for senior staff on "Higher Education Recent Trends and Strategic Matters." Her insights offered valuable perspectives on the evolving global academic landscape, directly informing ³Ô¹ÏÍø's strategic thinking and positioning.

Topic: Gender Inequality in the Workplace

Dr. Paul Bennet conducted a compelling guest lecture for Qasim Ibrahim School of Business (QISB) students on "Gender Inequality in the Workplace." This session sparked critical discussion and provided students with contemporary insights into vital business and social issues, demonstrating the direct benefits of our partnership to our student body.

The visit from our UWE partners underscores the strength and dynamism of our collaboration. It is a testament to the shared values and goals that drive both institutions. As we move forward, ³Ô¹ÏÍø is excited to implement the strategic initiatives discussed, ensuring our students continue to receive an education that is globally recognised and locally relevant.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the UWE delegation for their time, insight, and unwavering support. We look forward to achieving new heights of academic success and innovation for our students and community.
